NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Kurram Tangi Dam in North Waziristan, according to state media reports.
The dam will be completed in two phases; the first phase is expected to be completed in two years. Upon comple
tion, the dam will pr
oduce 83.4 megawatts of electricity.
Kurram Tangi Dam is a lo
w-cost project with the capacity to store an ample amount of water which would help reduce flooding in the surrounding areas.
According to a statement issued in the media, “The dam will also help
overcome floods in the area besides bringing socio economic improvement in the area.”
The project will also irrigate vast areas in North Waziristan and Khyber Pakh
tunkhwa.
